The Effect of Certain Growth Regulator Treatments on the Sprout Growth and Corm Formation of Gladiolus gandavensis cv . Topaz

Abstract
This study was initiated to understand the effect of plant growth regulators on the sprout growth of gladiolus corm according to either plant, flowered or non-flowered in corm-growing. Furthermore, the treatment effect of ancymidol and paclobutrazol on corm-forming was also studied.
Growth of the sprout was promoted more in corms of plants non-flowered than in corms of plants flowered. 20ppm NAA or 50 and 100ppm ethychlozate treatments also induced and accelerated spro uting and stem elongation.
On the other hand, a type of apical dominance seems to exist in the gladiolus corm. This phenomenon can be controlled by certain plant growth regulator treatments.
It is concluded from the present observations that ancymidol or paclobutrazol treatments can be used effectively for a valid corm production.
